Postdoctoral position in invasive human neurophysiology during deep brain stimulation surgery
The UCLA Neurosurgical Brain Mapping and Restoration Lab (NBMRL), under the direction of Dr. Nader Pouratian in the UCLA Department of Neurosurgery, is recruiting a motivated and talented postdoctoral fellow to join an interdisciplinary team to study invasive neurophysiology of Parkinson's disease. This position is funded by a recently awarded R01 and BRAIN initiative U01 grant. The project involves acquisition and analysis of intra-operative local field potential recordings via DBS electrodes with simultaneous electrocorticography. Research questions center on the role of network oscillations in the pathophysiology of disease and how network coupling contributes to regulation of movement (with a focus on conflict and stopping paradigms). Analyses will be performed with patients on and off medications and on and off stimulation.
The successful candidates are expected to be team players and collaborate closely with other team members (both within UCLA and across our collaborative multi-site network) to develop and validate data recordings, analyses, and the interpretation of results. The candidates are also expected to report, through oral presentation and written reports/papers, algorithms and experimental findings. In addition, opportunities to develop research proposals under direct mentorship from the PI will be provided. Assistance to international scholars will be provided for applications of visa of appropriate categories.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Qualified candidates should have a PhD with a publication track record and have previous experience in:
Candidates should be facile with Matlab and be able to write clean and modular code. Previous experience in the kinematic data analysis (movement disorders) would be beneficial, but not essential.
Interested candidates should contact Dr. Nader Pouratian at firstname.lastname@example.org with questions or submit a letter of interest, CV, and at least 2 references.
Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows: If you are interested in learning about possible research opportunities, please send a research statement, CV, and a letter of recommendation to Diana Babayan or Nadia Hashoush.
